Three of my favorite record shops in Los Angeles
Los Angeles is home to a vibrant music scene, and it boasts several top-notch vinyl record shops where vinyl enthusiasts can indulge their passion for music. Here are three of my favorite record stores in LA:
High Fidelity, West Adams, 4765 W Adams Blvd. - High Fidelity is a gem of a little shop that features a small but great offering of tunes. While I always find a couple cool things in the new arrivals bin, the $1 bin is the best in town! I’ve pulled Miles Davis’ Sketches of Spain out of here plus some other amazing records. Sure the jacket was pretty busted but the record sounds fine!
Nivessa Records, Mid City, 5770 W Pico Blvd. - Just stumbled upon this place recently and wow what a find. It’s a decent sized store with all my favorite genres covered. Jazz, funk, soul, rock, dance, hip hop, and a lot of 45s. My favorite thing about this place was not only its diversity but its depth. A true spot to spend some time digging! Many of the well known records are a bit pricey but if you spend some time you can find some great stuff priced really well. They have just opened a new location in Hollywood I look forward to checking out this week.
Record Safari, Los Feliz, 3222 Los Feliz Blvd. - My favorite record shop in Los Angeles! Record Safari's inventory typically includes a wide range of music, from classic rock and jazz to punk, soul, funk, and beyond. Whether you're searching for rare collectibles or hidden gems, the shop offers something for every music lover. For me it’s really all the great soul and funk that the owner, Alex Rodriquez, brings in. Decent 45 collection as well but because they are not organized it can be a bit to grind through. In addition to selling vinyl records, Record Safari also serves as a platform for promoting local artists, musicians, and independent record labels. Alex often collaborates with musicians and DJs to host live music events and DJ sets at the mobile record shop, further fostering a sense of community among music lovers in LA.
